About Recognia

August 29, 2002 - E*TRADE Canada first online broker in Canada to offer automated Technical Event® identification through partnership with Recognia Inc.

New stock analysis tools provide yet another reason for Active Traders and Serious Investors to trade smarter and faster with Power E*TRADE®
Toronto, ON, Canada, August 29, 2002— E*TRADE Canada today became the first online broker in Canada to launch automated Technical Event identification and chart pattern recognition tools, utilizing advanced recognition technology developed by Recognia Inc. These industry leading analytical tools will allow E*TRADE Canada customers to research stocks with reference to recent Technical Event opportunities, allowing investors to make more informed trading decisions and uncover new investing opportunities.

"E*TRADE Canada is serious about providing the best service to enable Active Traders and Serious Investors to make effective investment decisions," said Colleen Moorehead, President of E*TRADE Canada. "The recent addition of Recognia's sophisticated stock analysis tools will help make our customers the smartest and fastest investors in Canada."

Power E*TRADE® is announcing today two tools powered by Recognia for Active Traders and Serious Investors:

  • Recent Technical Event opportunities, a feature that allows online investors to select a stock symbol and review recent price movements or chart patterns for that stock (such as bullish reversal patterns); and,
  • Technical Event Stock Screener, a tool that allows customers to produce a list of stocks based on specified Technical Event search criteria. The Technical Event Stock Screener answers some of investors' most common questions when searching for new investing ideas and includes pre-built selection criteria such as "Stocks with Long-Term Bullish Outlook" or "Stocks with a Possible 15% Price Increase".

"We are very excited that E*TRADE Canada is the first online broker in Canada to provide this powerful new information to the retail investor," said Sean Church, President and CEO of Recognia Inc. "By using the power of E*TRADE Canada's tools and the information provided by Recognia, investors can now make better trading decisions than ever before. Technical Analysis is a tried and true tool that provides investors with an objective source of investment information. We're pleased to work with E*TRADE Canada to help their customers trade smarter."

Technical Event Alerts functionality will be offered to Power E*TRADE accounts in future phases to further increase customers' ability to trade smarter and faster. These e-mail alerts will provide automatic notification when a Technical Event occurs, facilitating quicker responses to changes in market conditions and more educated and timely decision-making.

E*TRADE Canada is part of E*TRADE Financial, a global pioneer in diversified financial services and world leader in online trading. Power E*TRADE provides Active Traders and Serious Investors with enhanced access to information, superior service, faster trading and valuable market insight.
